Hong Ji Traditional Wanton Noodle is a beloved hawker stall at Albert Centre known for its old-school wanton mee featuring springy, firm noodles tossed in a savoury seasoning sauce with crispy pork lard. The menu includes char siew wanton noodles, siu yuk noodles and fresh prawn dumpling noodles, each served with a comforting bowl of ikan bilis-flavoured soup containing plump wantons and dumplings. The char siew is soft and meaty, the fried wanton skin shatteringly crisp, and the siu yuk boasts firm, meaty pieces with crispy skin. It is the sort of no-nonsense, flavourful bowl that keeps regulars returning for that nostalgic taste. Head to Hong Ji at Albert Centre for a satisfying plate of traditional wanton mee done the old-fashioned way.

I ordered dumpling noodles from this stall, and regretted it immediately. Both the owners, female and male, sneezed into the food they were preparing... multiple times. And they laughed about it. I watched the male stallholder cook and pack my noodles; the portion was very small, less than half a container. $5.00 for 4 very sad dumplings and 30 cents for a takeaway container. Look at how little filling there is in the first dumpling. You can see the chopstick that's poked through. And look at the second dumpling, more skin than filling. Saddest dumplings ever. Consistently measly fillings. Not going to bother taking pics of the other two dumplings. Noodles are also pong pong with a sticky film outside, from overcooking and boiling in far too reused yellow water. Lastly, I hope they really threw away that piece of fallen dumpling on the floor, and did not cook it for the next unsuspecting customer. Sigh. I should've stuck to handmade fishball noodles at the same hawker centre, $4 (cheaper) with a lot more generous ingredients. Huge handmade fishballs! Sad lunch today.

Noodles (non-soggy type), I like. Sauce is okay, but the wantons can be further improved. $4 per plate of wanton noodles, reasonably priced.

$3.50 for a plate of tasty wanton noodles, with dry and wet wanton dumplings that are fresh and taste great. I prefer this to the other wanton stall.

One of the good wonton noodle places in town. Well-flavoured noodles, texture is just right. With added dark soya sauce, it would be perfect. The dumplings are fresh. $5 for the combination is very affordable!
