I’ve been taking classes at Rubato with Thomas for nine months now and I love it! After years of almost being ‘good’ at guitar (whatever that means) I’m starting to really love learning guitar for the first time, the being ‘good’ part is …

A hippy (let your talents unleash within the inner YOU!) music school/studio managed by a small group of young talented boys and girls... YES! Hidden at a quiet corner on the 3rd level of Bras Basah Complex, this simple yet invitingly chic studio exudes a no-fright-to-come-in-and-ask-for-more vibe. Literally almost any instrument you wanna learn, play whatever! They can and will handle it. No exams, no stress, no pressure. It's all about music, playing together, showing off what you can and want to do. Support our young local talents y'all and peace out!

This music school is somehow incredibly underrated on Google Maps despite the place being around for almost 2 years (5 reviews at the time of writing), and as a student I can't help but legitimately want to see the school flourish further. Initially finding their Instagram ads, they had a totally different casual/edgy/cool and individualistic vibe from other "professional" schools that teach music. They shared stories about themselves and their musician life, and seem to have incredible passion in music itself. I'm glad the ads I saw are true to life. The instructors here are super chill and they are extremely accommodating to my needs: my finances, time, my learning speed, maybe even my social needs. It's totally unlike other music schools which set out syllabuses, practices, and exams which feel clinical in nature. The location itself can be a little out of the way, but turn the corner from the level 3 escalator until you see Ranking Music, then turn right and head down the corridor where you'll see a nice blackboard (if they're open). I would highly recommend this school for everyone who is very interested in exploring music, making music, or playing music at their own pace.
